HOW THE TOTEM CAME TO BE
WHY IT EXISTS
WHAT IT MEANS
We liked the idea of incorporating the letters that make up TORI into our logo. After playing with a few different versions of emblems we liked but didn't love, we tried something new. We knew this was what we wanted to represent us and the culture we were creating. Not knowing what to name it, we researched, and the word totem surfaced. The idea, that a totem is a symbolic representation, an embodiment, an emblem, inspired us to adopt it for TORI.
The T is front and center, and features two pillars representing each of us. Mirror images, are also a theme and represent the idea of self reflection.
There are multiple O's in this totem, and the largest three are concentric. The other O is formed by the R's. Concentric circles start from the same center point. By choosing to do good in the world, the O's like water ripples, spread and cause change outwards.
The R's are mirror images. They form a continuum at the bottom, and remind us of how knowledge is infinite, as well as the capacity to learn and change.
The I is the center pillar of the totem. It anchors and balances representing the positive influence we all can be in the world.
